Module 8 film review

I c hose the film "The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure" along with "More Human than Human". It is my belief that the former film is encapsulated in the latter film. I additionally believe that the former film is enhanced by the second film because of a chance encounter between two cultures, this enhancement would advance the science and add to the styling and development of the human figure changing how we see ourselves. The first film gives us a history of human development and the psyche. The film takes the viewer on a journey illustrating the development of man in his natural environment, and the development of art that represented what man and woman looked like. It began in the cradle of creatio in the Nile Valley before and after it was developed into an advanced civilization. The figurine art of the nomads who had no interest in exemplifying arms and faces on the human body but instead crafted figures with exaggerated stomachs and breasts

Module #7 Frank Lloyd Wright and the Prarie View

I chose this film because Wright was an American visionary and an icon who developed and enhanced  an original architectural category with his prairie style architecture. This film seems to be a part of the motif exhibited in the book. It incorporated original architectural techniques by recycling clay, boulders, and other natural materials during construction of some of his earliest homes after excavating basement in his new build homes. Wright tried to incorporate nature and the surrounding environment when designing his homes. Wright wanted to create a synergy between architecture, nature, and science, an organic architecture. This film by including Sullivan and Richardson gives us Buffalonian's pride in the treasures that we have access to. Wright emphasizes wood and nature in his architecture which was a stark difference from the other film that I watched, "The science of design." Wright distinguished his architecture with the use of lights, natural and man made

Module #7 Architecture: The Science of Design

The advent of skyscrapers incorporated vertical airspace changing the environment that we live in and how we live in it. Steel was stronger and more durable. Improved engineering allowed for architects and builders to do so in a multitude of ways when considering how to build one of these new skyscrapers or taller buildings. Uniformed codes were established along with regulations put into place to address unprecedented issues accompanying this new use of vertical and subterranean space where a suitable foundation would have to built support such massive structures. Never before seen issues such as sway, turbulence, and air quality while socially citizens adopted a new vertical existence as a new way of life. Elevators were added to enable easier access then what stairs could have provided in these taller buildings.      The reading and the video affirmed one another chronicling architecture from ancient to modern science..The video concentrated on the advent of vertical construct

Module #6 Sculpture, glass and ceramics

I am most affected by the videos on sculpture, glass and ceramics with the use and acknowledgment of science that is incorporated in the creation of what we consider art.  I am not that proficient in math, geometry or chemistry but I am nevertheless intrigued by how these sciences are used by both our ancient ancestors and modern humans to bring about a desired result. One of the most impressive ideals was the transition of man from natural resources such as Clay, rock and wood to making art that advanced the movement with the use of manufactured material suck as styrofoam or steel. “ Through the Eyes of the Sculpture” took the viewer on a journey of both the creation of a particular piece of art and the journey of an apprentice to a master sculptor.  There are various materials, techniques or experiences that make both the art and the artist. That the result of subtraction is a carving and by addition a sculpture is formed was informative in of itself. The second video “ Glass and Cerami

1. Htein Lin's, "A Show of Hands" and Pascale Marthine Tyou's, "Chalk Fresco",2015 both made an impression on me because the inspiration that the artists drew on was humanity as an expression that we are one human race. 2. I feel connected to Liza Lou's, "Carbon/Solid 2012-14 with the use of beads starting at a "point zero" to create this work drew my attention to this piece. Zanele Muholi's series "Somnyama Ngonyama "Hail the Dark Lioness",2017 with the use of the contrast between light and the darkness of the subjects skin exemplifies its beauty. 3. Paul Gauguin's "The Little Parisienne" ca, 1881, sculpture depicts life in Paris at the time of discovery in impressionist art. Pa;ul Cezanne's "The Three Skull", 1898 makes me wonder about mankinds mortality and the symbolism associated with life and death.
